“Red Horse”–Peycho Kanev

on Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin

The bloody sunset sinks. The eye
is fixed. Then slowly blinks,
containing the whole world in one

single, black dot. The black reins.
And this modern David on the back
of the fierce power. The water is calm

and the bluish-green waves are splashing
like ice. All is quiet, except the red flames
foaming out of this infernal soul.
